Fleet review improving emissions and efficiency

We were asked to consider the extent to which operational requirements for a large vehicle fleet were being met, identify opportunities to reduce costs, and what was needed to support repositioning the fleet to meet the Government’s requirement to reduce vehicle emissions by 2025.

Our report identified that the existing fleet was over-specified, costs and emissions were higher than they needed to be, and opportunities to achieve savings of around 15% of total operating costs. In terms of vehicle emissions, we identified that some Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles were already the cheapest vehicle option on a whole-of-life basis, the need for better information on how the current fleet was being used to successfully transition to electric vehicles, and a procurement pathway to move to a lower emission, lower cost fleet over the next 3-5 years.
