Response to Kaikoura earthquakes

Following the 2017 review of New Zealand’s response to the Kaikoura earthquakes, an advisory group was formed to provide advice on the most appropriate operational and legislative mechanisms to support future responses to natural disasters and other emergencies.

We were asked to support the advisory group project team to develop and cost high-level policy options in response to the review. Options included emergency management facilities, operating models, alerting systems, training programmes and agency structure. Our work supported various papers and proposals to Ministers and Cabinet.
