WorkSafe Strategic Baseline Review

High performing regulation is an important contributor to social, economic and environmental outcomes. We were asked to assess whether WorkSafe was managing its resources efficiently and effectively, and to provide advice on the rationale, quantum and targeting of any additional funding. Working with a regulatory expert, the assessment covered WorkSafe’s regulatory performance, how it was managing its resources and whether additional funding was warranted.

Given its enabling legislation and broad role, WorkSafe faces a wide range of choices and expectations. WorkSafe therefore needs a clear and concise strategy that is compelling, specific and outcomes focused. Our Review found that a clearer description of what WorkSafe does (its activities), what resources are applied to these activities, and the contribution these activities make to its outcomes was needed.  Until this is done, it will not be possible to determine whether additional funding is needed and what impact this would have on it's outcomes.
